About Henderson State University

Henderson State University is a four-year public liberal arts university located in Arkadelphia, which is the county seat of Clark County, situated in the US state of Arkansas, a city with a population estimated at a number of more than 10 000 inhabitants, during the 2005 census. Arkadelphia is situated at the foothills of the Ouachita Mountains, and it is best known for the fact that it is home to Henderson State University and Ouachita Baptist University.


Henderson State was founded in 1890, as Arkadelphia Methodist College, and since then, it has been renamed several times, over the years, since its founding, the university being known under the following names: Arkadelphia Methodist College (1890-1904), Henderson College (1904-1911), Henderson-Brown College (1911-1929), Henderson State Teachers College (1929-1967), Henderson State College (1967-1975), and, finally, Henderson State University, the institution's current name, which was adopted in 1975.


Athletics


Henderson's athletic teams are known as the Reddies (men) and Lady Reddies (women), who compete in NCAA Division II, in the Gulf South Conference, in various sports, including in baseball, basketball, golf, football, softball, tennis and volleyball. Their distinctive colors are red and gray.
